Best Management for RootMaker® BioPot

  1. Propagate on a wire bench 12” to 30” above the greenhouse floor in RootMaker® 18-Cell or RM 32-Cell Propagation Trays. This will ensure that the root systems will be of superior quality.
    1. No circling roots.
    2. Laterally branched root structure.
    3. Increased root tip surface area.
  2. For propagation, we recommend a mix of peat and perlite 40/60 or pine bark, peat and perlite at 50/30/20 by volume. To this add 4-6 pounds of RootMaker® RM6 18-6-12 with minors per cubic yard.
  3. Shift into RootMaker® BioPot when the plants in the trays are fully rooted. This will maximize root development in the shortest time, usually weeks.
  4. Because the RootMaker® BioPot is designed to be planted along with the plant, the window of selling can begin sooner rather than when the plant is fully rooted.
    1. No circling roots.
    2. Further development of laterally branched root system.
    3. Additional increase in root tip surface area.
    4. Cooler root zone temperatures than black plastic containers.
    5. Rapid establishment as the openings for root pruning are the openings that let roots grow into the surrounding soil.
    6. Decomposition of the container by moisture and soil borne organisms.
  5. Fertilize with your preferred method. For the remaining shifts into above ground containers the mix is ground pine bark, peat and sand 60/20/20 by volume. Add 14 pounds of RootMaker® RM8 17-7-14 with minors per cubic yard. The quantity of dolomite required for best growth depends on the minerals dissolved in your irrigation water.
  6. Watering will be somewhat different than watering plants in plastic containers, therefore be observant.
  7. To make the best presentation from an environmentally friendly standpoint, we recommend using a paper label attached to a wooden stick.
